A WELCOME FROM THE HEAD TEACHER, MRS JANE LINCOLN
Welcome to the International School Seychelles. Choosing a school for your child is one of the most difficult decisions parents can make. Please take time to look through the website and read the information available.
The school aims to educate students in its care through the formal and informal curricula, at the same time recognizing and valuing the individual qualities of each student. We aim to educate the whole person, engendering an enthusiasm for learning that will last their whole lives and encouraging them to achieve the best they can. Students are encouraged and taught to be creative thinkers, solving problems with flexible and innovative ideas, to be confident and responsible as well as happy and stimulated.
The last few years have seen many changes for ISS not least the increase in size and the addition of the Early Years block to the school site. ISS has grown to nearly 700 students from a small beginning of nine students in 1969. ISS continues to be a vibrant learning community with students excelling themselves both academically, in sports and in many other ways.
Although we are not an academically selective school, our students continue to be successful in external examinations, last year 2010, over 83% of IGCSE students achieved 5 or more higher passes with 44% of all passes at A*/A. When measured against the English Baccalaureate, 73% of students achieved this range of good IGCSE passes. At ‘A’ level the average was 3 ‘B’s with all our students wishing to go on to higher education securing the grades they required. We are very proud of our students and the staff who help them achieve such outstanding results.
This achievement reflects the philosophy of the school in that every student deserves the best education and is encouraged to excel in everything they do. The Special Educational Needs department supports those students who from time to time may need a little extra help. This is part of the schools commitment to maximising the progress of every child.
The website will give you basic information about the life of the school and a flavour of what we do. It cannot truly reflect the reality, for that you have to visit us and see the school in action. We are always happy to show visitors around the school at any time. Please contact the school to arrange a visit. I look forward to meeting you and sharing our school with you and in due course welcoming your child to the school.
