letterhead

Dear Parents,
I’d like to welcome you all to the Foundation Stage section of ISS, whether you are returning after a long summer holiday or joining us for the first time
We welcome Miss Sheryl and Miss Nathasia to Reception 2S.
We are now settling into our normal school routines and the new children who have joined us already seem to be happy in their new classesEach half term, we will be covering different topics. Within these topics, we aim to cover the Foundation Stage Curriculum, in an interesting and fun way, as appropriate for children of this age group. The children in the Foundation Stage (Reception classes) work towards the Early Learning Goals, which are usually reached by the end of Reception 2.
We blend traditional teacher-led lesson delivery with child initiated learning. Our teaching methods cater for visual, auditory and kinaesthetic learners.
Each Friday, you can access the newsletter on the school website. It is intended to inform you of the week’s events, the following week’s focus, ideas for Home Learning and dates for your diary.
Please inform us if you require a hard copy, due to lack of a computer!
I trust you will find this useful and informative and welcome your constructive comments and feedback!
Many thanks,
Jacquie Scott
Foundation Stage Co-ordinator

Reception News
12th September 2008
This Week
Our topic over the next few weeks is ‘Myself.’
Please note – Although we share the same topic throughout Foundation Stage and some of the activities are similar between Reception One and Two, we differentiate the lessons according to the ability of the children.
Last week we concentrated on settling the children into their classes and getting to know each other. We showed the children around the school and discussed class and playground rules, reinforcing them through praise and encouragement.
In Art, Reception One has been experimenting with different mark making tools e.g. large marker pens, paint and large brushes and crayons. In Reception 2, we have been using collage to produce faces and people.
During our literacy sessions, the teachers have been assessing the children’s knowledge of phonics and have been teaching some new sounds. We have shared a selection of stories and the children have started borrowing a book from the Early Childhood library once a week. They have practised recognising and writing their names and have been learning the names of parts of their body.
In Maths, We have been learning how to sort using different criteria – colour, shape, size and type. We have been working with numbers to five and ten.
