The International School is happy to announce the successful completion of a two week high performance training camp lead by EuroFootball Academy. Rob Hunter, Robbie Hunter, and David Murphy travelled to The Seychelles on May 19th to coordinate an intensive two week programme focused on technical and tactical skill development in youth football.

Initially organized for the three competitive teams (Primary Boys, Under 13 Boys, and Senior Girls) currently registered at ISS, the coaches also offered training sessions to the Seychelles Football Federation (Coaching Clinic, Girls Under 16 National Team) and to the Year 3 and Year 4 students at ISS. The training sessions have been held at both Freedom Square and Mont Fleuri Field where many parents and onlookers have taken time to observe the numerous drills and activities. With over 20 hours of high performance training behind them—each individual player has benefitted from this opportunity to develop theirs skills, conditioning, and appreciation for the sport of football.

It should be highlighted that this initiative would not have been possible without the considerable support from the ‘extended’ school community (parents, businesses, NCS, SFF). To bring three reputable coaches from overseas with minimal cost to each player was only possible through the generous actions of numerous individuals and companies. Air Seychelles provided the key support of transportation—bringing the coaches over from South Africa and arranging the flights back to the UK. The Seychelles Football Federation was naturally enthusiastic about this proposal and as such provided the ISS Football Programme with 30 new footballs to further compliment their already generous donation of equipment. The school itself demonstrated it’s commitment to Youth Sport through financial and logistical support (by subsidizing flight expenses and arranging for accommodation) further establishing ISS as an institution that focuses on the development of the ‘whole child’ . The NSC was very generous in its efforts for arranging adequate training facilities at convenient times—in the end Mr. Hunter and his team were very impressed with the facilities available and they see tremendous potential for the development of youth football in The Seychelles.

The parent community at ISS has played a key role in supporting this camp-demonstrating their commitment not only to their children but to the whole school. Through the parent community the football camp has received a rental car for the coaches, additional transport and supervision for the players, t-shirts for each player and a fantastic level of enthusiasm and interest in the camp which further motivates the coaches and players alike.

The success of the camp is something that can be shared with all of The Seychelles as it was by definition a community development programme involving several stakeholders and directly benefiting the future of football in The Seychelles. It was the beginning of what we hope to become a long standing relationship with Eurofootball Academy and their highly qualified and committed coaches.

Points of interest:
• The camp was held from May 19th-May 30th, 2:45pm—4:30pm
• It was led by Rob Hunter and his team of coaches (Robbie Hunter and David Murphy) from EuroFootball Academy
• There was a coaching clinic at the SFF/Stade Linite on Saturday, May 24th, 8:30am-2:00pm involving youth development coaches and the under 16 national team (Young Pirates)
• There was an additional training session on Thursday, May29th, at 5:00pm to follow up on the earlier coaching clinic

• The final training session for ISS students was on Friday, May 30th, 2:45-4:30 at Mont Fleuri Field, which will be followed by a brief assembly/awards presentation at the school (5:00pm)
• There were 43 athletes initially registered for the camp—primary boys, under 13 boys, and senior girls
• An additional training schedule was organized for the year 3-4 students which saw 22 participants (8:00am-9:30am)
• There was tremendous support from the ISS parent, business, and sporting community—without which the camp would not have succeeded.
